Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour (can swap with almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (130g) creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream (use dairy-free milk if preferred)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter using a microwave-safe bowl or a small saucepan over low heat. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and shiny. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Stop once everything is just combined; do not overmix.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk or powdered sugar if needed.
  7. Pour half the chocolate batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Drop spoonfuls of peanut butter mixture over the batter, then dollop the remaining chocolate batter on top.
  8. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the peanut butter through the chocolate batter, creating a marbled effect without overmixing.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter.
  10. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Use room temperature eggs for better incorporation. Swirl peanut butter gently to maintain marbled effect. Start checking doneness at 25 minutes to avoid drying out. Cool completely before cutting for clean slices. For nut-free version, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter. Vegan adaptations include flax egg and dairy-free substitutes.
