Easy Fresh Caprese Skewers Recipe with Balsamic Drizzle for Perfect Party Snacks

Fresh and vibrant Caprese skewers with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and basil, finished with a homemade balsamic glaze. Perfect for quick, healthy, and crowd-pleasing party snacks.

  • 8 oz (225 g) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 1 pint (about 300 g) cherry or grape tomatoes
  • About 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup (240 ml) balsamic vinegar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Wooden or bamboo skewers (about 4 inches long)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the balsamic glaze: Pour 1 cup (240 ml) balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened to a syrupy consistency (about 8–10 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Rinse and dry the cherry tomatoes. Slice larger tomatoes in half if needed for bite size.
  3. Rinse and dry fresh basil leaves, selecting bright green, unblemished ones.
  4. Drain mozzarella balls and pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  5. Assemble the skewers by threading one mozzarella ball, followed by a basil leaf (folded if large), then a cherry tomato onto each 4-inch skewer. Repeat until all ingredients are used (about 20 skewers).
  6. Arrange skewers on a serving platter. Lightly drizzle with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  7. Drizzle the cooled balsamic glaze over the skewers just before serving. Optionally, add freshly cracked black pepper or red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.

Notes

Dry mozzarella and tomatoes well to avoid watery skewers. Add balsamic glaze just before serving to keep ingredients fresh and prevent sogginess. You can assemble skewers up to an hour ahead and refrigerate uncovered. For dairy-free, substitute mozzarella with marinated tofu or vegan cheese. Optionally, toss tomatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper before assembling for enhanced flavor.
