These Fresh Caprese Salad Skewers are a quick and easy appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, and basil leaves, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties and casual gatherings, they combine fresh flavors in a fun, bite-sized format.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint (300g) cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 8 ounces (225g) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), drained
  • 1 small bunch fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, optional
  • About 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and basil leaves gently under cool water. Pat dry with paper towels to avoid excess moisture.
  2. Drain mozzarella balls well using a fine sieve or colander to remove excess liquid.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine tomatoes and mozzarella. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and gently toss to coat evenly.
  4. Thread one cherry tomato onto a skewer, followed by a folded basil leaf, then a mozzarella ball, another basil leaf, and finish with another tomato.
  5. Lay the skewers neatly on a serving platter, spacing them to avoid squishing.
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over the skewers.
  7. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of balsamic glaze for a sweet, tangy finish.

Notes

Assemble skewers no more than 2 hours before serving to keep basil fresh and mozzarella from weeping. Hold off on adding salt and balsamic glaze until just before serving if prepping ahead. Fold basil leaves instead of tearing to keep them whole and pretty. Gently press mozzarella balls before skewering to improve grip.
