These quick and easy chocolate dirt cups with gummy worms are a fun, no-bake dessert that’s perfect for parties, playdates, or a simple weeknight treat. Creamy chocolate pudding, tangy cream cheese, and crunchy Oreo ‘dirt’ come together in a cup for a deliciously playful dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies (about 20 cookies)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup gummy worms
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place 20 Oreo cookies (cream and all) in a food processor. Pulse until you have fine crumbs with a few slightly larger pieces for texture. If using a bag, seal it tightly and crush with a rolling pin until you reach the same consistency. Transfer the crumbs to a medium bowl and stir in the melted butter until evenly moistened. Set aside.
  2. Whip the cream cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 1 minute. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and beat for another 30 seconds until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula.
  3. Make the pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk. Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes until the pudding starts to thicken. It will still be a bit loose—that’s okay. Let it sit for 2 minutes to set up slightly.
  4. Combine the pudding and cream cheese: Pour the pudding into the bowl with the cream cheese mixture. Using the electric mixer on low speed, beat until completely smooth and uniform. You’re looking for a silky, mousse-like consistency. If you see any white streaks of cream cheese, keep mixing.
  5. Layer the cups: Take your 6 to 8 cups and start building. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the Oreo crumbs into the bottom of each cup. Press down gently with the back of the spoon to create a compact base. Then, spoon or pipe the chocolate pudding mixture on top, filling each cup about two-thirds full.
  6. Add the top dirt layer: Sprinkle the remaining Oreo crumbs generously over the pudding layer. Use enough to completely cover the chocolate—about 2 to 3 tablespoons per cup.
  7. Insert the gummy worms: Gently push 2 to 3 gummy worms into the dirt layer, leaving part of them sticking out. For extra fun, cut a few worms in half and place them on top, as if they’re crawling out.
  8. Chill: Place the cups in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. This lets the pudding set fully and the flavors meld.
  9. Serve: Take the cups out of the fridge just before serving. If you’re making them for a party, you can add a few extra gummy worms on top for a dramatic effect.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps. Chill the cups for 15 minutes before adding gummy worms to prevent them from sinking. The pudding mixture can be piped for cleaner layers. These are best served cold and can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
