A fun and easy Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough to look like mummies, baked to crispy golden perfection with playful mustard or ketchup eyes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular beef or pork hot dogs (or turkey/chicken hot dogs for a healthier twist)
  • 1 can (8 ounces / 226 grams) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup for eyes
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a clean surface.
  3. Slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  4. Wrap each hot dog with the dough strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages and leaving a small section exposed for the eyes.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  6. Brush the dough with the egg wash to achieve a golden finish and extra crunch.
  7. Add tiny dots of mustard or ketchup on the exposed hot dog area to create eyes using a toothpick or small knife tip.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  9. Remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack for a few minutes before serving to keep crispy and avoid burns.

Notes

If dough is too sticky, chill briefly in the fridge. Don’t wrap dough strips too tightly to allow steam to escape and maintain the mummy look. Egg wash is essential for a golden, crispy finish. Reheat in oven or toaster oven to keep crispiness; avoid microwave. Can freeze assembled mummies before baking and bake from frozen with extra time.
