These Easy Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs for Kids are the kind of recipe that feels like a secret weapon. They’re silly, fast, and perfect for last-minute Halloween treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs
  • 1 can (8 rolls) crescent roll dough
  • Yellow or Dijon mustard (for eyes)
  • Ketchup (optional, for dipping)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it along the perforated lines into 8 triangles. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice each triangle lengthwise into 3 long strips, about ½-inch wide.
  3. Wrap each hot dog: Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap at the top (about ½ inch) for the face. Leave the bottom slightly exposed too. Repeat with all 8 hot dogs. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.
  4. Make the egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Brush the egg wash over the dough strips.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden brown. The hot dogs should be heated through.
  6. Let the mummies cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet. Then, using a toothpick or a small knife, dab a tiny amount of mustard onto the exposed hot dog area to create eyes. Two dots per mummy. Press gently so the mustard sticks.
  7. Serve immediately with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Don’t overwrap the dough; leave a tiny gap between wraps for puffing. Use cold dough for easier handling. Add mustard eyes after baking to prevent drying out. For a crowd, double or triple the recipe.
