Flaky, buttery croissant dough wrapped around savory ham and melty cheese, perfect for quick snacks or casual gatherings. These bite-sized roll-ups offer a satisfying texture contrast and are easy to prepare in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package pre-made croissant dough (about 8 oz)
  • 6 ounces thinly sliced ham (deli-style or leftover)
  • 6 ounces cheese slices (sharp cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Optional: pinch of dried thyme or parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and position rack in the center.
  2. Unroll croissant dough onto a clean surface and slice into small triangles about 3 inches wide at the base.
  3. Brush a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the inside of each triangle using a pastry brush.
  4. Place a small slice of ham on each triangle, followed by a piece of cheese. Optionally sprinkle dried thyme or parsley over the cheese.
  5. Roll each triangle starting at the wide base toward the pointed end, rolling gently but firmly.
  6. Arrange the mini roll-ups on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  7. Brush the tops lightly with the egg wash for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown, watching closely to avoid burning.
  9. Let cool for about 5 minutes before serving to allow cheese to settle.

Notes

If outsides brown too quickly but insides are undercooked, tent roll-ups loosely with foil and continue baking. Keep dough chilled until just before rolling to maintain flakiness. Avoid overfilling to prevent sogginess. For gluten-free, use gluten-free puff pastry; for dairy-free, use vegan cheese and plant-based milk for egg wash. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat best in the oven. Freeze unbaked roll-ups on a tray before transferring to a freezer bag; bake from frozen adding a few extra minutes.
