These football-shaped pigs in a blanket are a quick, fun, and flavorful snack perfect for game days and casual gatherings, paired with a spicy-sweet jalapeño honey mustard dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Mini sausages (cocktail-sized or little smoked sausages, e.g., Johnsonville brand)
  • Crescent roll dough (pre-made refrigerated dough, e.g., Pillsbury crescents)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese (optional, small slice or shred)
  • Egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with a splash of water)
  • For the jalapeño honey mustard dip:
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 fresh jalapeño, finely minced (seeded for milder heat)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the jalapeño honey mustard dip by mixing ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 minced jalapeño, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste in a medium bowl. Stir until smooth and refrigerate.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into rectangles. Press perforations to seal and cut each rectangle into ½-inch wide strips.
  4. If using cheese, cut thin strips or small squares to place inside the dough along with the sausage.
  5. Wrap each mini sausage with a dough strip, rolling tightly but gently. Shape into a football by pinching and tapering the ends.
  6. Arrange wrapped sausages on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  7. Create football laces by cutting thin dough strips and pressing them in a crosshatch pattern on top of each wrapped sausage.
  8. Brush each pig in a blanket with the egg wash for a golden finish.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until dough is puffed and golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep dough cold until use to prevent stickiness. Use egg wash for a golden crust. Adjust jalapeño heat to taste. Dough can be substituted with puff pastry or gluten-free alternatives. Cheese is optional. Dough strips for laces add a festive touch but are optional. Dough can be frozen before baking. Reheat in oven to maintain flakiness.
