A quick and easy recipe for tender, flaky salmon glazed with a sticky, sweet-savory honey garlic sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners and crowd-pleasing meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 salmon fillets, skin-on, about 6 ounces (170 grams) each
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (from half a lemon)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to season
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or green onions

Instructions

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Lightly season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Let rest at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, fresh lemon juice, and softened butter. Stir until the butter is incorporated into the liquid mixture.
  3. Heat a 10-inch non-stick or stainless steel skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Warm until shimmering but not smoking, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the pan. Press down gently with a spatula for 10 seconds to prevent curling. Cook for 4-5 minutes without moving them until the skin is crisp and golden brown.
  5. Carefully flip the salmon fillets over. Pour the honey garlic glaze over the fish. Reduce heat to medium-low.
  6. Spoon the glaze continuously over the salmon for 3-4 minutes, allowing it to thicken and coat the fish. The glaze will bubble slightly and turn glossy. The salmon will cook through and become tender and flaky.
  7. Check doneness by ensuring the salmon flakes easily with a fork but still looks moist inside. Avoid overcooking.
  8. Transfer the salmon to plates and drizzle any remaining glaze from the pan on top. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Pat salmon dry before cooking for crispy skin. Use medium heat to avoid burning the honey glaze. Spoon glaze continuously for best coating. Let salmon rest a couple of minutes after cooking for juiciness. If glaze thickens too much or burns, lower heat and add a splash of water. Optional: add red pepper flakes for heat or fresh herbs for flavor. Can bake after searing for 5-7 minutes at 400°F for an oven option.
