Spooky Mummy Pigs in a Blanket: Easy Halloween Recipe

These spooky mummy pigs in a blanket are a fun and easy Halloween treat made with crescent dough, hot dogs, and mozzarella cheese. They come together in under 30 minutes and are perfect for parties or a silly dinner before trick-or-treating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. Pinch the perforated seams together to form a solid rectangle.
  3. Cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/4-inch wide, using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. You should get roughly 20-24 strips.
  4. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Cut each hot dog in half crosswise for mini mummies, or leave whole for full-sized ones.
  5. Take a hot dog piece and sprinkle a small pinch of shredded mozzarella along the top. Wrap one or two dough strips around the hot dog, leaving a small gap in the middle for the ‘eyes.’ Repeat with all hot dogs.
  6. Place the mummies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Brush each mummy with the beaten egg wash using a pastry brush.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Let them cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet.
  10. Using a toothpick, dab a tiny dot of yellow mustard in the gap on each mummy for eyes.

Notes

Don’t wrap the dough too tightly; it needs room to puff. For extra crispy bottoms, bake on a wire rack placed on the baking sheet. Unbaked mummies can be frozen for up to 2 months.
